    directplay error

Three days i'm facing the problem when i try to join or host a game. TA launch and the timed out message error appeared.

The computer is connected to internet through another computer with no router or firewall and window's firewall is desactivated on the two computers.

I've read on this forum that the problem could come from the ISP... Is there any way to solve the problem ?

    Re: directplay error

    I too have this problem,

I'm behind a router with built in firewall which allows all outgoing traffic and ports opened for the ones TA requires. I have my software firewall open on the same settings. CD in the drive etc etc. Help!!!

    Re: directplay error

In many cases where people think that the firewall is not the problem, it turns out it was indeed the problem after all. Therefore, if you haven't already, I recommend double checking the firewall settings. But whatever you do, don't turn firewalls off - you should always have at least one active firewall. Instead, configure your firewall to let TA through. If you don't know how, ask around - there are lots of people who know what generally needs to be done. Visit the client and ask someone there.

For the record, TA needs TCP and UDP port range 2300-2400 (This is the DirectX/DirectPlay default port range. TA uses one TCP port from 2300 to 2349 and one UDP 2350-2400 if I remember correctly), plus TCP 47624. All settings both inbound and outbound if that was unclear.

Madlulu: I could be wrong, but I would guess that you need to direct data from the gateway computer to the computer you're using to play TA. Assuming the gateway computer works as a router (I have no experience with gateway comps), you need to forward the TA ports to your other comp's internal IP. If it's not that, then I have no idea - you should ask tcbw or visit his site at www.tcbw.net/ta, and browse around there. Chances are you'll find something useful.

Jontoothuk: Double check the configuration for both the router and the software firewall on your computer. If in doubt, ask someone on the client for assistance while doing this. There are lots of helpful people out there. If it's not that, then I suppose it could be something that only occurs rarely, could be the ISP, etc. I won't go any further into that - would be a blind shot. Ask around on the client.

I've gotten a bit rusty at this, considering I don't do this every day anymore - but since no one had replied here, I thought I'd give it a go. =)
