PhoenixWorks Question - Command Line Parameters to TA

    PhoenixWorks Question

I've just recently started getting setup online. One question: I need to use the "-d" option on the command line for TA to run flicker free. But it doesn't seem PW allows a direct command line modification in their configuration screen. Anyone have any good ideas?

Re: PhoenixWorks Question - Command Line Parameters to TA

Phoenix Worx uses a DirectPlay lobby launch to start TA thus the command line is not fed into the program directly by the caller but taken implicitly from the Windows Registry.

You have to do two things to get it things work the way you want:

    1) Edit the comand line entry in the Windows Registry at

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\DirectPlay\Applications\Total Annihilation\ CommandLine

so it suits your needs (in your case adding the "-d" option).

    2) In the Phoenix Worx client programm go to the top Menu entry Options->Configuration->Mods and disable the check box "Update Registry entries" in the "OTA (Unmodified TA 3.1c)" section.

Re: PhoenixWorks Question - Command Line Parameters to TA

    Thanks for the response.

I tried that but it didn't seem to work.   If I modify the registry and disable the check box, I get an error from PW saying "Missing Registry Entries. You won't be able to play games".  Either way I do it, I don't seem get the -d to either work or stay persistant in the registry.

Any other ideas?  I'd like to try online play, but I really need to get the -d option or else the screen flicker is just about too much to bear.

Have you tryed just hitting the ok button on that warning message and continuing launching the game anyway ?
You will get that messenge all the time, but the game should still launch (i am running PW with that perticular option box unchecked myself).

Now that you mention it: I remember that you always end up with "-c" flag when PW launches TA no matter what command line is put in the registry. I don't know how the PW client is doing that you may want to page Dange (the PW admin) when he is online he migght be able to help you out with your problem.

Re: PhoenixWorks Question - Command Line Parameters to TA

The CommandLine field isn't affected by the Update Registry Entries option, because it is required to tell TA to use a game.ini for locking out IGW information and setting defaults in training games.  The client always writes to this field.

As far as changing this behavior, I'll have to think about how to handle it.

I am having this problem as well. There needs to be a solution to it.
