I used to play
TA regularly on my laptop running on Windows Vista. No problems at all.
Until last
week.....After approximately 50 seconds in game, on the map King of the Hill,
the whole screen turned into purple-like colours. You could still see the game,
but it was very difficult distinguish things.
Then I used
ALT-TAB to return back to Windows for a while. And from there I returned with
ALT-TAB back to the game. Then the game runnend properly for approximately one and a half hour.
From then the
strange purple colours re-appeared every 50 seconds in game! When I did the
ALT-TAB trick, everything runnend fine for a while, but the purple colours
re-appeared every 50 seconds. Very frustrating of course...
From that
moment it was wrong. Every new game I started went into purple colours after
approxemately 50 seconds. When I used
the ALT-TAB trick, it only worked out for another 50 seconds.
I tried
differend resolutions within TA, I tried all the Compatibility modes
(right-click the TA.exe start up logo) like Windows 95, 98, XP etc. But unfortunately
nothing worked.
Then I put all
my hope on Windows 7! (like I already tried before several times) I installed
the game and all the patches again, fresh from the cd (3.1C patch, CC, 5k etc.). But I got disappointed again, because exactly
the same thing re-occured.
Also in
Windows 7 I tried all of the Compatibility modes. This time also the functions:
“Disable
visual thems”
“Disable
desktop composition”
“Disable
display scaling on high DPI settings”
And
“Run in 256
colors”
“Run in
640x480 screen resolution”
About these
last two functions: when I applied them and I started TA, the game wasn’t
running in a resolution of 640x480 and the colours looked normal (until after
50 sec. In game of course). So now I am in doubt if Windows applied the other
compatibility modes correctly (like the Windows 98 mode).
Depending on
wich mode I selected, the strange colours do appear, either directly or after
50 sec. In game. It is however frustrating. Also on other maps, the same thing
happens.
UPDATE:
Then I read the TAUNIVERSE FAQ forum and tried the "Windows mode" and it worked! No purple colours anymore, I'm very glad about that!

Only question:
Does anybody know if (and how) it's possible to enlarge the "window mode" screen?
Thanks!
